Every day I bear witness to the female human condition at Allure Intimate Apparel. These intimate moments in the fitting room can be very dynamic, sad, complicated, inspirational and, for sure, transformational. Not just for me as a bra fit specialist but also for our customers. So many women are overwhelmed by their daily lives. It is not uncommon for husbands to do research on us and suggest Allure to their wives who are seeking our help because they have nowhere else to go. Some of our other customers find us from Google, Facebook, Instagram, reviews and more—but primarily word of mouth.

I did not expect that my work at Allure, a women’s lingerie boutique, would forever impact my view of the world. I have always been a service-driven person and at times, I feel like there are not many of us out there. I know my Allure sisters are service driven just like me. I also know this from the daily interactions we have with our customers.
One of my first eye-opening moments at Allure was when my manager Amanda gave the bra off her back to help a customer. Amanda gave it to her to keep for her own collection while she waited for her first bra from Allure to be altered. At that time, in March of 2023, Elomi had not started or released production of their double K, L and double L bra cup sizes. Amanda shared an uncommon size that this customer had needed. She was so generous because she no longer had a need for that bra and was entering into a breast reduction surgery the very next day. Amanda’s generosity did not go unnoticed!
Allure women change lives.
In another occurrence, I watched my colleague Dorothy fit a woman who was wheelchair bound living with MS. The woman she helped was able to dress herself independently and Dorothy describes it as simply, “humbling.” She has limitations when getting into the bra, so she gets it by pulling it over her head. Both Dorothy and the customer required a lot patience during the process. While they were actively listening and guiding each other, her client wouldn’t let Dorothy help how customers typically do. Dorothy ended up finding exactly what she needed and she left grateful for her expertise. We teach many technical ways to fit garments, best practices, wear and care and more. At the end of that busy Sunday, we discussed how the fitting impacted us. How fittings like this require humility from the customer and the fitter. This moment was about witnessing an incredibly capable woman getting a problem solved—one of those truly transformational fittings that stay with you. The moments in the fitting rooms impact us as fit specialists. Due to the impact these fits have on us, we are more capable for each new circumstance. As a witness to my fittings and others, Allure impacts my life—and hopefully yours too.
